Safer and more accurate procedures with Point of Care ultrasound

With greater numbers of healthy individuals undergoing cosmetic aesthetic treatments, image-guided ultrasound is key. It can help with injectable precision and resolving or preventing complications.

See Anatomy

No two patients have the same anatomy under the skin. Ensure the safety of your patients by knowing for certain where facial vascular structures are when injecting dermal filler products. This is vital to avoid adverse events. Complications can include skin nodules, necrosis or even blindness.

Guide Treatments

Using ultrasound to magnify facial anatomy in aesthetic medicine improves visibility of vascular mobility in 3D and shows the tissue that is being injected. This gives practitioners greater accuracy and confidence.

Monitor Treatment Placement

Ultrasound highlights what filler is doing and how it behaves in the body once administered to give better results.

Ultrasound in aesthetic medicine

Learn how qualitative imaging can help you in needle-based interventions in our free case study.

For 40 years we have injected ‘blind’ in plastic surgery and aesthetic medicine. Previously, we had in our mind’s eye the anatomic structures of the face, the body and skin layers. Ultrasound mapping is a revolution, giving with live and dynamic vision, a higher level of accuracy and safety to our patients.

Dr Benjamin Ascher, Plastic Surgeon, Paris, France

Ultrasound for aesthetic medicine has been around for 15 years, but it is only now that we’re starting to see it as such a valuable tool in cosmetic procedures. Almost all other medical specialties use ultrasound for image guidance in their clinical procedures, yet it has low use in aesthetic medicine. As you cannot see underneath the skin, ultrasound helps to visualise underlying facial anatomy to create safer patient procedures. We have seen a rise in complication consultations associated with cosmetic fillers in the Netherlands. Ten years ago, I had a consultation once every six weeks; now, there are six of us two full days per week and a three-month waiting list. We started using ultrasound to see fillers and this also showed that there was anatomy visible under the skin and that a lot of dissolvable filler complications are injector related.

Dr. Leonie Schelke MD PhD, Cosmetic Physician Phlebologist, Amsterdam, Netherlands

Using ultrasound needs time to learn, as with any new technology, but after these first steps, it will be like your third eye. In a few minutes of this dynamic examination, you will really understand the potential ultrasound has in your daily practice. In a pre-mapping procedures you can check vessels, highlight the presence of previous filler products, observe the integration of hyaluronic acid in time, find threads under the skin, find anatomical asymmetry and many other conditions. Last but not the least, you can inject with echo guidance. Ultrasound can help you be sure of a patient’s aesthetic medicine history. Even if they say they haven’t had any procedures before, a look under the skin can highlight the presence of silicon, hyaluronic acid or other filler products. If you don’t check, you take the risk of complications.

L4-20t-RS Button Probe

The L4-20t-RS lightweight button probe enables professionals to gain high-frequency imagery of superficial structures while also being able to penetrate deeper without compromising image quality. It assists when performing needle procedures and can control multiple parameters from the probe itself one-handed.
